Vanessa BeaulieuLab coordinator
Vanessa holds a bachelor’s degree in film studies from the University of Montreal (2012), a yoga teaching certification issued by Yoga Alliance (2020), and a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health from the University Téluq (2022). In September, she will begin her third year of undergraduate studies in Psychology at the University of Montreal. Her goal is to continue her education with a Ph.D. in psychology, specializing in research and intervention. Vanessa is particularly interested in the use of yoga as a complementary tool in psychotherapy, physical and sexual trauma, sexuality, and psychopathologies.

Anaïka FrançoisDoctoral studentAnaïka (she/her) has a bachelor's in Psychology from the Université de Montréal and is doing her PhD in clinical psychology research-intervention under the supervision of Dr. Beáta Bőthe. Her main research interests lie in the articulation of issues related to pornography use and compulsive sexual behaviors within an intersectional paradigm. Anaïka is the recipient of a graduate scholarship from the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Société et culture (FRQSC) for 2023-2025.

Émilie GaudetDoctoral student
Émilie is a research assistant for Dr. Beáta Bőthe’s STAR Laboratory since May 2022. She holds a major in psychology from Université de Montréal (2023) and a bachelor’s degree in film from Université du Québec à Montréal (2005). As of 2023, she is pursuing her Ph.D. in psychology at Université de Montréal to become a clinical psychologist and researcher.
For her Ph.D., Émilie is working on the development, psychological impact and treatment of behavioral addictions, a natural extension of her projects with Dr. Bőthe. In 2023, she presented some of her research findings as first author at the International Conference on Behavioral Addictions (ICBA) and at the Annual Conference of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research (SSTAR). |
Aurélie Michaud
Doctoral student
Aurélie Michaud (she/her) is a second-year doctorate student in clinical psychology (D.Psy) at the University of Montreal under the supervision of Dr. Beáta Bőthe. Before completing a major in psychology at the Université de Montréal, she obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in business intelligence at HEC Montréal, and worked as a data scientist and as a lecturer in statistics. Her research interests include behavioral addictions, couple dynamics and cultural aspects of sexuality.

Léna Nagy
Doctoral student
Léna (she/her) started her PhD in 2020 under the supervision of Dr. Beáta Bőthe and Dr. Demetrovics Zsolt at ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary. She has an MA in psychology with a clinical and health psychology major and graduated as a licensed sex therapist in 2023. Acting as a co-investigator for the International Sex Survey from 2020 onward, Léna is also actively engaged in various international collaborations. She researches a spectrum of topics, encompassing sexual traumas and associated factors like sexual assertiveness, as well as compulsive or otherwise problematic sexual behaviors. During the years, she presented her research at numerous international conferences (e.g., ICBA, IASR) and won grants such as the Corley Research Grant and the scholarship of the Hungarian National Excellence Programme.

Sofia Bourgoignie
Research assistant
Sofia (she/her) is finishing her bachelor’s degree in psychology at McGill University, with a double minor in Behavioral Science and Gender, Sexuality, Feminism, and Social Justice Studies. She looks forward to applying to the University of Montreal for the psychology master’s program next year. She is passionate about the intersectionality of culture, feminism, psychology, and sexuality. What interested her in the STAR Lab was the International Sex Survey which incorporates most of her interests. Her goal is to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical psychology research intervention, focusing on issues related to trauma and sexuality intervention.

Corinne Bouthillier

Corinne is a bachelor's student in psychology. She is entering her second year and joined the laboratory out of an interest in sexuality and a desire to discover more about research. Her interests include couple relationships (and the place of sexuality in them), attachment, and personality. She hopes to pursue graduate studies in psychology or sexology to work in intervention.

Susanne Coulombe
Research assistant
Susanne (she/her) is a 3rd year undergraduate student in psychology at the University of Montreal. She joined the Star Lab team as a research assistant in January 2024. Fascinated by the complexity of the mind and body, and the universality of human suffering, she hopes to pursue her doctoral studies in clinical psychology. Her interests lie in adverse childhood experiences, emotional and sexual trauma, anxiety and attachment disorders. Under the supervision of Dr Beata Bothe, and as part of her research laboratory class, she’s investigating asexuality and sexual desire.

Marianne Danella

Marianne (she/they) is currently in her third year of her bachelor’s degree in psychology. Her goal is to pursue further studies in a doctoral program, specializing in clinical psychology to become a clinician. She has a strong passion for areas such as relationship psychology, sexology, gender and sexual diversity, sociology, self-identity exploration, psychopathology, and personality. Her research interests primarily focus on these areas. Currently, she is part of the STAR lab, where she continues a project that she initiated during one of her research classes (Laboratory 2).

Zachary Fontaine-Dussault
Research assistantZachary (he/him) is a second-year undergraduate student in psychology at the University of Montreal. He joined the STAR laboratory in January 2024. His interests in psychology mainly focus on personality and personality disorders, but also on psychopathology in general, motivation, non-sexual and sexual violence as well as paraphilias. Zachary wishes to continue his educational journey at the doctoral level to eventually become a clinician.

Campbell Ince
Research assistantCampbell (he/him) is a PhD candidate and sessional lecturer/teaching associate in psychology at Monash University, Australia. He holds an honours degree in psychology (Monash University, 2019) following a diploma in science from the University of Western Australia (2018). His PhD, titled "Examining the clinical features and aetiological mechanisms of problematic pornography use: a mixed-methods design" is currently funded by an Australian government research training program (RTP) scholarship. Campbell has presented numerous research papers at national and domestic conferences, including the International Conference on Behavioral Addictions.

Fabiola Ngamaleu TeumeniResearch assistantFabiola (she/her) is a second-year undergraduate student in psychology at the University of Montreal. Since February 2023, she has been a research assistant in Dr. Bőthe's Sexuality, Technology, and Addictions Laboratory. She wishes to pursue her doctoral studies in clinical psychology, and her main research interests focus on the intersectional perspective of compulsive sexual behaviors in adults and seniors.

Juliana Pierre
Research assistantHaving had a great experience with her philosophy classes and always having had an interest for questions of social matter, Juliana (she/her) pursued her studies in sociology. She still couldn’t neglect how mental health was something she wanted to be more educated on, therefore she is doing a double bachelor in psychology and sociology at the University of Montreal. Now at her final year, she is discovering a growing interest for social representations of love and sexuality as well as gender stereotypes. She joins the STAR laboratory for an internship wanting to learn more about the research field.

Lucas Walters
Research assistantLucas Walters (he/him) is a fifth-year doctorate student in clinical psychology (Ph.D.) at the University of Ottawa and will be joining the lab as a postdoctoral research fellow in 2025 under the supervision of Dr. Beáta Bőthe. Currently, Lucas is completing his residency at the Kingston Internship Consortium. Lucas has also completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology (B.Sc) at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research interests include sexual attraction, paraphilia, and psychopathology broadly.
