Sofia Bourgoignie

Sofia (she/her) is finishing her bachelor’s degree in psychology at McGill University, with a double minor in Behavioral Science and Gender, Sexuality, Feminism, and Social Justice Studies. She looks forward to applying to the University of Montreal for the psychology master’s program next year. She is passionate about the intersectionality of culture, feminism, psychology, and sexuality. What interested her in the STAR Lab was the International Sex Survey which incorporates most of her interests. Her goal is to pursue a Ph.D. in clinical psychology research intervention, focusing on issues related to trauma and sexuality intervention.

Corinne Bouthillier
Research assistant
Corinne is a bachelor's student in psychology. She is entering her second year and joined the laboratory out of an interest in sexuality and a desire to discover more about research. Her interests include couple relationships (and the place of sexuality in them), attachment, and personality. She hopes to pursue graduate studies in psychology or sexology to work in intervention.

Susanne Coulombe
Research assistant
Susanne (she/her) is a 3rd year undergraduate student in psychology at the University of Montreal. She joined the Star Lab team as a research assistant in January 2024. Fascinated by the complexity of the mind and body, and the universality of human suffering, she hopes to pursue her doctoral studies in clinical psychology. Her interests lie in adverse childhood experiences, emotional and sexual trauma, anxiety and attachment disorders. Under the supervision of Dr Beata Bothe, and as part of her research laboratory class, she’s investigating asexuality and sexual desire.

Campbell InceResearch assistantCampbell (he/him) is a PhD candidate and sessional lecturer/teaching associate in psychology at Monash University, Australia. He holds an honours degree in psychology (Monash University, 2019) following a diploma in science from the University of Western Australia (2018). His PhD, titled "Examining the clinical features and aetiological mechanisms of problematic pornography use: a mixed-methods design" is currently funded by an Australian government research training program (RTP) scholarship. Campbell has presented numerous research papers at national and domestic conferences, including the International Conference on Behavioral Addictions.

Florence LaroucheResearch assistantFlorence (she/her) is pursuing the second year of her bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Montreal. She joined the lab in December 2024 to complete her Laboratory 3 class. Her research interests include dyadic relationships, sexuality and sexual health.

Fabiola Ngamaleu TeumeniResearch assistantFabiola (she/her) is a second-year undergraduate student in psychology at the University of Montreal. Since February 2023, she has been a research assistant in Dr. Bőthe's Sexuality, Technology, and Addictions Laboratory. She wishes to pursue her doctoral studies in clinical psychology, and her main research interests focus on the intersectional perspective of compulsive sexual behaviors in adults and seniors.

Juliana Pierre
Research assistantHaving had a great experience with her philosophy classes and always having had an interest for questions of social matter, Juliana (she/her) pursued her studies in sociology. She still couldn’t neglect how mental health was something she wanted to be more educated on, therefore she is doing a double bachelor in psychology and sociology at the University of Montreal. Now at her final year, she is discovering a growing interest for social representations of love and sexuality as well as gender stereotypes. She joins the STAR laboratory for an internship wanting to learn more about the research field.

Joline TrudelResearch assistantJoline (she/her) is in the second year of her bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Montreal. She joined the team to learn more about the world of research and to contribute to studies about sexuality and addictions. She is passionate about compulsive sexual behaviors and mental health disorder as well as their influence on the dynamics of intimate relationships. Her goal is to continue her graduate studies in psychology or sexology.

Lucas WaltersResearch assistantLucas Walters (he/him) is a fifth-year doctorate student in clinical psychology (Ph.D.) at the University of Ottawa and will be joining the lab as a postdoctoral research fellow in 2025 under the supervision of Dr. Beáta Bőthe. Currently, Lucas is completing his residency at the Kingston Internship Consortium. Lucas has also completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology (B.Sc) at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research interests include sexual attraction, paraphilia, and psychopathology broadly.

Amanda XocairaResearch assistantAmanda Xocaira (she/her) is a dedicated clinical psychologist from Brazil specializing in evidence-based psychology and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with expertise in behavioral addictions and impulse control disorders. As a collaborator with the Brazilian Association of Evidence-Based Psychology and currently advancing her studies at the University of São Paulo (USP), she focuses on treating and educating about conditions such as problematic pornography use, technological dependence, compulsive buying, and gambling addiction.
